Huge uplift in pension benefits
Client A approached us to arrange the drawing of their pension benefits from Aegon. They had a fund value of a little over £25,000. After allowing for a 25% tax-free lump-sum Aegon offered our Client a pension of £833 per annum.
We scoured the entire market and due to a medical complaint, we were instead able to secure for our Client a pension of £1,340 (after the same 25% tax-free cash). This represents a massive 61% uplift!
Many clients are unaware that they qualify for an enhanced annuity rate due to an existing condition. For example, smoking ten cigarettes a day for ten years could result in an 18% annuity uplift. A body mass index exceeding 36 could result in a 7% uplift. Taking one tablet per day for high blood pressure and another for high cholesterol could result in a 13% uplift.
Please do not assume that the company with which you have your pension is offering the best annuity terms as more often than not, they aren’t!
Over £15,000 in tax relief!
Clients B approached us as they had recently sold their self-employed business which they ran as a partnership. With some of the proceeds of the sale they wanted to buy an annuity to secure a guaranteed lifetime income. Whilst this was straightforward to facilitate, our advice instead was to apply the available sum towards pensions and then immediately draw benefits. In so doing, Clients B received combined tax relief of over £15,000. They then drew 25% of their enhanced pension funds as tax-free lump-sums and used the remaining tax relieved funds to purchase guaranteed lifetime incomes.

Risk Warning - Stockmarket investments can offer income through the payment of dividends and interest and good opportunities for capital appreciation over the longer term. By this, generally we mean periods in excess of five years, preferably much longer. However, we can never promise you particular returns, especially in the short-term. At any point in time but especially in the short term, your capital could be worth less than the original amount invested as some of the selected holdings may fall in value, regardless of expectations at the time of acquisition. We may also invest in funds that hold overseas securities. The value of these investments may increase or decrease as a result of changes in currency exchange rates. Returns achieved in the past cannot be relied upon to be repeated.
